                    June 15, 2008
PHASE 2 - THE VIDEO QUILT PROJECT
                      Stitching together voices for Palestine
                      Make your voice heard!
                                          BACKGROUND
For 60 years the Palestinian refugees' right to return to their land and homes of origin has been under attack from various forces that wish to rewrite the past and dictate the present and future of Palestine and its people. Despite these attacks, for 60 years Palestinians and their supporters around the world have remained steadfast in not just supporting this right, but demanding and asserting that it is a right that must be implemented if justice and real peace are to be achieved. These voices unfortunately have all too often been deliberately muffled and fragmented ... It's time to collect these voices -- literally.
                     GOAL
On this the 60th year of the Nakba, we are collectively creating a Video Quilt to demonstrate that among Palestinians and their many supporters there remains a strong united voice for the Palestinian people's Right to Return to their homes and lands of origin.
                     PHASE 1
An 8-minute film, which represented a sampling of what had been collected so far as part of the Video Quilt Project, premiered at the 6th Annual Al-Awda Convention, May 16-18, 2008. This Video Quilt has been posted online at YouTube and may be viewed at: http://www.al-awda.org/video_quilt1.html
                    PHASE 2
We are now in the process of gathering messages for an extended version of the Video Quilt which we intend to show at various exhibits and venues over the next year. These short messages will include those recorded at the 6th Annual Al-Awda Convention from keynote speakers and other participants, as well as those we receive by Friday August 15, 2008.
                     WE NEED YOUR HELP
In order to create this second edition of the Video Quilt, we need your help. We are asking for video submissions from around the world with SHORT MESSAGES supporting the right to return. We are looking for messages from:

                       * Refugees (individuals and groups) affirming they have the right to return or that they WILL return
  * Activists and individuals from around the world (every continent) supporting the right to return
  * Famous personalities supporting the right to return

All messages must be brief -- they should be just one or two short sentences, and these will be "stitched" together and edited to make a short exhibition video on the international support for the right of return.
Videos should be submitted by August 15, 2008 in mini-DV, DVD, or VHS format. For more tips and info visit: http://al-awda.org/alert-video_quilt2.html
