"He choked and his eyes were full of tears, and with a trembling voice he said 'I remember it as if it has just happened', this is the way he ended the story, the story of a nine-year old boy from a small village called Eilaboun (Eilabun), in Palestine 1948, the story of my father, when he was a refugee." - filmmaker Hisham Zreik
THE ESSENCE OF OUR NAKBA AND STRUGGLE TO RETURN
On May 16, 2008, at the opening event of the Sixth International Al-Awda Convention, an extraordinary and moving documentary film will be presented. The film will set the stage for our weekend of education, commemoration and organizing for the inalienable Right of Palestinians to Return to their homes and lands. The film, The Sons of Eilaboun by Hisham Zreik, is a key part of the program for this convention.
The Sons of Eilaboun depicts the horror inflicted on just one small village in Northern Galilee in Palestine. In 1948, just four years after the world had defeated the Nazis, the Zionists executed their notorious 'Plan Dalet' on Palestine and its people. The film tells the story, in their own words, of the survivors of the massacre which the Zionists committed at Eilaboun.
The power of The Sons of Eilaboun lies not only in its moving content. It is also a reminder of the 60- year day-by-day resistance to occupation and struggle to return since the events of 1948. The film will be followed by a discussion of Zionist policies that have continued since 1948.
The Sons of Eilaboun has been screened in Nazareth, Eilaboun, Akka and Haifa, and will be screened in Ramallah in the Awda Festival where it is expected to receive an award.
Seating for this one-time must-see showing at the convention is limited. So please make your convention reservations as soon as possible if you have not done so already.
